Blue Strips

Here it is! Blue Strips is finished. 

 

I know you were wondering what I was doing with this.

 

 

It became this!

This is right before adding the binding.

You knew there would be a picture of my wonderful kitchen floor in here somewhere.

Most of the strips are the same width or very close. I did not do that intentionally. I wanted there to be some big pieces and some little pieces. I just did not think about how "little" can be relative. Oh well, I still love how it turned out.

 

 

Originally there was only blue in the quilt, but it need a resting place. I had the white strips already cut, so they were added. I think they look perfect in this quilt. They make the quilt pop!

 I did not have a glorious quilt model to help me with the pictures, but that is OK. These are still some great pictures.

 

The backing is a great print. I prefer to use a print of some sort that will hide any imperfects. You know I have my share of those. This print hide them very well.





I used the wavy quilting pattern on this. I really like the wave because it is easy and quick plus it looks impressive.

 

Here is that lovely backing fabric and some of the binding. I love this quilt and I hope the recipient loves it too.

Sneak Peek at Blue Strips

 

Here is a peek of something that I have been working on.

As it is made of my husband's favorite color, he keeps asking if it is for him. I think I will have to make him something soon. We'll see.

Wedding, Wings, and Wonder

So...my sister got married. I was the maid of honor.

This is my brother, my sister, my mom, and me.

In case you were wondering, those are wings my sister is wearing. She LOVES fairies, so she got fairy wings for her wedding. :)

There was a lot of stuff to do for it! It was great fun, and I know she is happy. So, in case you were wondering what I have been up to, now you know: I was in full wedding mode for over a month. However, there is no need to worry. I will have a few quilts to share very soon. :)

Chevron Finish

I cannot believe that I actually did it! I finished this entire quilt in a week!
It gives me hope that I can actually do that! I never ever thought it was possible for me!
I see so many people who do, and I sorta envy them making so many quilts in a year while I flounder. So, yeah this is awesome!

 

With the quickness of this quilt, I did not get great pictures (at least I don't think they are that great). I took them the morning of the baby shower while the sun was still shining. It was a lovely morning with just enough sun to take these pictures before the rain moved in.

 

I was going to take a few more before the shower but then it was raining and it was time to party and all that so... Here is a snap of the back.

And here with the rest of the goodies. I am happy to report that she LOVES it. She knew exactly who it was from as soon as she started pulling it out (without looking at the card).

 

Anyways, I did not get a measurement or pictures of the binding :(, but since she is not far away and I know will let me take a few more pictures be looking for a few updates. :)

Chevron Basting

So, yesterday before I ran off to visit my sister and mother, I squared up the quilt, pieced a backing, and basted the layers together.

I kept the points. I am certain that I will do something with them...eventually.

 

This is when I realized that this is the first quilt I have ever made on-point!

 

I did not get a picture of the back (sorry). I guess it will have to wait until the full reveal.

I baste with safety pins now, but I am looking at alternatives. I like safety pins because they can be reused. Is there anything else that you use that can be reused to baste with another time?

 

Now I am considering how I want to quilt it. I am thinking about this "honeycomb" method and this "wavy" method. Oh, the many options to quilt it!

 

So, since my husband is working today *quivering lip*, I will quilt this so it will be ready for the baby shower tomorrow.

Chevron part one

So, this morning, I started out with this: a bunch of squares layed out. Ready to be put together into a quilt top.

 

 

Then after a bunch of this...

I got a quilt top!

Woo Hoo! I finished it! I finished it! *happy dance*

 

From all of these squares.

 

 

Tomorrow, I will cut the edges to square the quilt up.

Right now I am tired. *Yawn*

Piecing of the top I blogged about yesterday has begun. We should have a top by tonight!

I am taking a break because I sewed some of it together backward. I hate when I do that, because I hate to undo and redo. So, a break should clear things up.

Back with a finished quilt top soon. I hope.

Snow Break 2013

So, I am on Spring Break this week and it has been snowing for the past two days. I am in Alabama people. You know where it doesn't snow past the FIRST week of March not the LAST week of March! This is ridicules! It is a good thing that I like snow.

Anyways, my Spring Break so far has consisted of cleaning, watching movies, and sewing (well really cutting so far). Yay for sewing!

I really really really want to get this quilt pieced, quilted, and bound by Sat. noon for a baby shower that day. That will be a record for me. Currently, I do NOT have all of the pieces cut. I do have over half though.Also, I am going to my sister's house on Thur. to help clean for her bridal shower, and Fri. I am hanging with my Mr., who has the day off. We are going to a movie and getting a bite to eat. So, let's see how far I can get today.

I think I will move some of the multi-colored fabric around a little before sewing. I will keep you updated on my progress. 12:21 pm

Quilting the Half-square Triangle Quilt

It is snowing in March in Alabama!

 

I have been quilting my niece's quilt.

 

It would have been finished a long time ago if I was not having so much trouble with the thread breaking. I did not have any problems when I was quilting the white fabric, but I have had all types of problems quilting the purple.

I have tried changing the needle and the thread.
I am not sure what the problem is. The only thing that seems to work is quilting slowly.
VERY SLOWLY!

 

It is not like I quilt fast as if I am racing, but if I quilt really slow I do not end up with this mess.



 

 

So When it does break, after each petal, today I look out the window at the snow and take a deep breath and start again.

Pink Lemonade Flimsies

So, I have had both of these finished for about a week. I just hadn't found the best time to photograph them. I wanted to take a picture of them with a winter look. If you know anything about the South you know that we get a storm that usually lasts for five minutes. Well that is about what happened. We had an ice storm, then another, then we missed snow by a county. By the time I could get to my camera AND the flimsies the everything melted!

 

This morning I woke up to find SNOW melting! I did not even know it was supposed to snow. I grabbed my camera and these beauties and it was go time. That would result in poor pictures. Perhaps when they are finished there will be much better pictures.

The fabrics and the patterns are the same, but there is a subtle difference between the two quilts. The difference is how many rows repeat. One quilt repeats every two while the other repeats every three rows. Hopefully that makes sense.

They are very bright and colorful.

 

Just the perfect colors for a couple of girls born in the hot summer.

 

The biggest differences between these two quilts will be the difference in backing. One will have the monkey fabric for the back and most likely the binding, while other should have the rest of the light pink, orange, green, and dark pink. We will see how much fabric I have left.

I am excited to have these finished and given to the girls, hopefully before they out grow them. Maybe there will be another snow when I finish them and then I can get more snowy bad pictures. Probably no more snow though, which is too bad. Snow is the best part of winter.
