Strip: Orange, Blue, and Tigers

Back in late August early September, I bought these

fabrics to make a quilt for a friend. I never got started, so I put this on my quilt goal list.

This past week I found a little time to cut the strips and later a little more time to start piecing.

 

 I had this half way pieced and left it on the table. With my prior engagements cancelled, I was able to finish it up.

 

I knew I had to take a picture of it now or I would not have a flimsy to show.

 

I do not think there is enough blue fabric in this quilt but plan to use it for the binding which will work great.

First Finish of 2015: Star Wars Z

First finish of 2015! Although I really think it should be the last of 2014. If I had everything except the binding on it before 2015 arrived should I say it made in 2014 or 2015? I guess it doesn't matter because it is finished and I am just now talking about it.

Remember when I made that 2 and it looked more like a Z?

 

Well, I have a nephew with a Z name who LOVES Star Wars.

So, I used the Z in a Star Wars themed quilt that I made for him. Although at first I was going to make a huge pillow for him, his mom suggested I make a quilt instead.

 

 

I was making this for him for Christmas. We were going to celebrate the Saturday after Christmas this year, and I had everything but the binding on it when we I found that this part of my family had to go out of state directly after Christmas; the day before we were going to celebrate. It was kind of sudden...

 

They said that they would not be able to be back until around May, so I just did not finish it.

However, since I am putting the binding on the T-shirt Quilt that I am finishing, I thought I would put the already made binding on this one also.

 



It is one of my favorite quick quilts: a strip quilt, and it is quilted with my favorite wavy quilting.

It is the perfect kind of Star Wars overload and is just great. I know that he is going to love this!

This is a lap quilt which is the best size for a child and easy to take on the go.

Go Tigers!

 

 

Look at the date quilted in the back! It looks so good! Also, this is black with white dot fabric. I am not sure why it looks grey, but I just had to show this picture.

 

I looked and looked for a fabric that I liked for the backing but could not find what I imagined. So, I looked in my stash for something else that would work. I found this black fabric with white dots and then added the white fabric and the white with black crisscross lines. It is not what I envisioned, but it is better.

I had planned to use the black fabric for the binding, but I used more than I thought I would in the quilt and did not have enough left for the binding. So, I used some of the other fabric that I had left over and I think that looks really wonderful also.

It was well received and treasured. Although this was made for a momma, she plans to use this for all sorts of graduation stuff next year. I am ecstatic that could make this happen for her. It seems that I am most excited that she plans to use this to keep warm at games.

2016 Flimsy and Quilting

2016 quilt top is finished!

 

It is so much better than I thought it would be! I love the numbers and the colors! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this quilt!

 

I have started to quilt this and am using the wavy quilting. I am going to quilt around the numbers in black so that it echoes the numbers. So, I made the wavy quilting go up to the numbers. I will bury the knots later.

 

This is the wavy quilting on the top of the quilt. It won't be long until it is finished.

 

Did I say that I LOVE this quilt? ;)

Tammy's Quilt Finish

And have another finished quilt.

I know that she is going to love it.

It is so nice to have a finished quilt.

 

I did a straight quilt line on each strip and then put at least one wavy quilt line on each strip. The back fabric was the inspiration fabric and pulled it all together. Since she is a lover of the English language, this backing fabric has words all over it.





Tammy's Strip Quilt

I decided to make a quilt for a friend as a thank you.

She is super sweet and helps so many people. It seems that she does not get a lot of thanks for all of the things that she does for people and me.

 

 

I asked what colors are in her living room and she told me red, brown, green, and tans.

I hope these fabrics work well.

 

Go Black and Gold!

I ordered a bunch of black, old gold, white, and grey fabrics for the graduation quilt.

 

 

I really did not like the grey fabrics in the quilt, and I did not like the fabric for the back. It just was not what I thought it would look like. It had grey in it. I thought it was a lot darker than lite grey. So, I will be looking for a different backing.

 

Here is the first group put together. We might have a quilt soon; if I can get the number together.

Mama's Green Strip Quilt



My mama got a quilt for Christmas, and I made it for her!

 

 

 

She has it on her couch to show it off to everyone who comes over. I wanted to take a picture of it and the back, so she started showing it off to me! She is so cute. You can see some of her hand in the above picture.

 

I used the only piece of Castle Peeps, that I have been able to get, on the back. My mom loves castles, so she gets the fabric. She thought it was great.

 

I of course used my favorite quilting waves. It is the best!

I do not currently have any green thread, so in the dark green stripes I used black thread. Although it is not green it still looks good.

 

Since my sister and I are both married and spend Christmas with our in laws, she in another state, we celebrate Christmas with our mom on the first day of winter. I finished the binding on this quilt that morning before heading to my mom's for our Christmas.

 

That was my theme this year: finish the morning and sometimes the hour of.

 

Christmas For Mom

I decided to make my mom a lap quilt for Christmas and this shed looked like the best place for a picture of the finished top.

 

 

This August when I was waiting for my machine to be fixed I cleaned my sewing room and put projects in order to make, I found the stack of stripes and fabric left from this project. I remember that I saved the rest to make my mom a quilt, so I put it in the stack. When I started pulling the quilt tops to quilt for my friend, I found this stack ready to get started. So, I pulled some of my other green scraps out and put a few in to complete a small lap quilt. I think the fabric additions really make this quilt pop!

 

I know my mom is going to love it! I have not ever made her a quilt (I am I shock also), and green is her favorite color. This top whipped up fast and I should have it quilted fast also. I still have enough fabric for the back and binding. All I have to do is get some batting and start quilting.

Christmas will be cozy!

Blue Strips

Here it is! Blue Strips is finished. 

 

I know you were wondering what I was doing with this.

 

 

It became this!

This is right before adding the binding.

You knew there would be a picture of my wonderful kitchen floor in here somewhere.

Most of the strips are the same width or very close. I did not do that intentionally. I wanted there to be some big pieces and some little pieces. I just did not think about how "little" can be relative. Oh well, I still love how it turned out.

 

 

Originally there was only blue in the quilt, but it need a resting place. I had the white strips already cut, so they were added. I think they look perfect in this quilt. They make the quilt pop!

 I did not have a glorious quilt model to help me with the pictures, but that is OK. These are still some great pictures.

 

The backing is a great print. I prefer to use a print of some sort that will hide any imperfects. You know I have my share of those. This print hide them very well.





I used the wavy quilting pattern on this. I really like the wave because it is easy and quick plus it looks impressive.

 

Here is that lovely backing fabric and some of the binding. I love this quilt and I hope the recipient loves it too.

Sneak Peek at Blue Strips

 

Here is a peek of something that I have been working on.

As it is made of my husband's favorite color, he keeps asking if it is for him. I think I will have to make him something soon. We'll see.

AU Scrap Quilt

I finished my Auburn quilt top.

I used many scraps from the Syracuse quilt.

 

If you live in Alabama you know that there are only two teams that matter. They are Auburn University and the University of Alabama.

FYI-I am a Nebraska fan.

 

This quilt is a gift for someone. I am sure that she does not read my blog, so we are safe.

I have been planning to make an AU quilt for said friend for about a year and decided that instead of purchasing all new fabric I would use what I had and just make it already.

 

I think it turned out very nice using the scraps. I did buy the darker AU fabric for this quilt because there was just not enough AU in the quilt and it needed some thing darker or blue or something. I think it really made it better.

I went in search of somewhere nice to take pictures of the quilt top. I think that this is a nice location. Since all the leaves have fallen off of the trees already, the holly (I think that is holly) tree worked great.
The wind was yet again trying to sabotage me.

I thought I would try a different location for pictures and stopped at this house. The front gate was the perfect size for my quilt. That house is so pretty I may have to take more pictures here. Maybe when I finish this quilt I will take it back to this house for a finished picture.

The wind was less a problem here, yay!

 

I am not far from finishing this quilt. I started quilting it and did not like the quilting so I put it to the side. Now I like the quilting, but the tension did not like me well. I may be pulling out quilting anyways :(.



Green Strip

I have finished this quilt as a gift for a certain person who has been a great help during my student teaching. Don't you think that a classroom make the perfect backdrop for this kind of gift.

I asked both of her children, at different times, what her favorite color was. Both told me that it was green. I have been wanting to make a strip quilt ever since I saw this post.



Maybe you can see them since they almost blend into the floor!



I rearranged and took out a few strips that would make this quilt too long and sewed them all together. (I think the previous picture is after I took out the few extra strips. I am reserving them for a quilt for my mom.) This is a lap quilt meant to be snuggled under while reading. So it is not meant to be big and long. Don't you just love the leaves? I knew that I had to get them then or they would be gone. Now my trees are bare.



Then I brought it back to the kitchen floor for basting.



I finished binding this over the Thanksgiving holiday. I thought that the dark green would be perfect.



The back is pieced. I prefer a patterned back to a quilt and this fabric was great, but I did not have enough. I had the dark green, but I was quilting in white and wanted to make sure there was enough for the binding. I had enough of this white left, so into the mix it went. I really like how it turned out. I will be making more quilts like this, but perhaps with a bigger color palette.
